With 13 more games on their schedule in 2022 the Los Angeles Rams are heading into Week 5 with a 2-2 record that might not be totally reflective of their true potential. They have struggled mightily in the second half so far this season, and seem to be the victim of a dreaded “Super Bowl hangover” after winning their first championship in Los Angeles last year.
An integral part of their struggles has been the lackluster play of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has been inefficient to this point in the season. His inability to limit turnovers has doomed Los Angeles’ offense, and he told reporters on Wednesday that he knows he will need to improve if the Rams are to get back to playoff contention in January.
“I mean, name of the game for the quarterback is helping the team get in the end zone,” Stafford said. “We haven’t done that enough and I can do a better job of that, whether that’s executing a little bit better in the red zone or being a little bit more explosive. I’m not going to get into full evals (evaluations). I’m not in that mode right now. I’m on a short week trying to figure out the Dallas Cowboys at the moment so that’s kind of where my focus is, but definitely can be better, try to get us in the end zone a little bit more.”
His concerning play is just part of what has kept Los Angeles from thriving through four games. The defense on the other side of the ball has taken a step back, and the team has struggled to establish a running game that is capable of carrying the load when Stafford misfires.
With a more comprehensive game plan in place for their tilt against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, Los Angeles could be well on their way to getting back on track.
