Mattress Seller Tuft & Needle Opens Austin Store

AUSTIN, TX — Mattress seller Tuft & Needle has opened its first local store on South Congress Avenue, company officials announced this week.

Self-described as "...the leading digitally native brand that changed the way mattresses are designed and sold," the company opened the local, 2,350-square-foot store within the new Music Lane development at 1011 South Congress Avenue. Given the timing of its opening amid the coronavirus pandemic, the new site is adherent to safety protocols that include the wearing of protective face coverings and physical distancing guidelines, officials noted in an advisory.

Tuft & Needle pioneered the modern mattress shopping experience by selling mattresses online that deliver right to cutomers' door in a small box. In-store shoppers can browse mattresses, mattress toppers and protectors, sheet sets in both jersey and percale made from Supima cotton, duvets and duvet covers and pillows, officials described.

Company officials described their offerings: Tuft & Needle mattresses are made from high-quality materials and are designed to provide comfort and support. The store features its best-sellers, including The Original Mattress; The Mint, featuring an added 4 inches of extra-firm foam around the bottom foam layer for extra edge support; and The Hybrid, a 12” mattress that includes six layers of the latest in foam with the traditional comfort of springs for ultimate comfort.

"Tuft & Needle is excited to be part of the vibrant community in Austin,” Anna Johnson, head of retail at Tuft & Needle, said in a prepared statement. “We plan to build relationships with several of our favorite local businesses that will allow us to give back to the community in a meaningful way.”

Designed in partnership with Hufft, the new Austin store offers a modern, comfortable setting for guests to experience a range of products, which includes high-quality foam mattresses, bedding, and furniture. In-store, bedrooms go from a lighter grey to darker tones from front to back. The store also includes the Tuft & Needle Dream Series, photos that provide a dream-like setting showcasing the product in unexpected ways. To elevate the modern aesthetic, the store features a mural that was created by artist Jen Mussari.

Due to COVID-19, the Austin Tuft & Needle store takes reservations for private shopping experiences exclusively, with hours open only for appointments easily made through its website here. "After making a reservation, one can expect the same seamless experience of trying out their mattresses and other sleep products in-store," company officials wrote. "Store guides wear face masks and respect social distancing guidelines and guests are asked to adhere to this as well."
