Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian Confirm Breakup After ‘Bachelor in Paradise’

After several weeks of Bachelor Nation speculation, Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian have confirmed that they’re no longer together. The pair gave a statement to People, saying, “We have decided to go our separate ways. Never did we imagine this, but we’ve come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves. We’ve appreciated everyone’s love and support so far throughout our journey and we just ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate through this.”

Speculation that Maurissa and Riley had parted ways started shortly after the new year, when fans noticed that Maurissa had deleted several recent photos of Riley. Meanwhile, fan account @bachelorwindmill noticed that she posted a mirror selfie without her engagement ring:

Turns out, Riley and Maurissa’s breakup went down a few weeks ago, several months after their engagement aired on Bachelor in Paradise. They’d previously spoken to People about their relationship, with Maurissa saying they were “just focused on finding love and building a connection” and that “Going into this, I guess the social media and the media is kind of what let us know that we are the first Black couple to come out of this. Because we just went into it [with an] open mind. Our hearts were open and we just happened to meet each other and we look alike, which is even better!”

Riley also told the outlet, “I wanted to come in and just really be my authentic self because I know if you reach the goal and you get engaged, when this is over, this person who they fell in love with, that has to be the same person when you leave the show. Otherwise, it’s not going to work.”
