Mavic, a French bicycle company known for its wheels, has opened an office in Waterbury

Mavic, a storied French bicycle company, has returned to North America by opening a sales and service center in Waterbury in Pilgrim Park, the former home of Green Mountain Coffee.

"We are thrilled to be back in the USA to address the needs of our North American customers with our new Mavic Service Center in Waterbury, Vermont," Jean-Michel Bourrelier, CEO of Mavic USA, said in a statement. "We are also very excited to unveil many new products in the coming months, relevant to the U.S. market and local riders."

Founded in 1889, Mavic made its name with high-end wheels, and was one of the key developers of tubeless technology for bicycle wheels.

Mavic putting focus back on rims, hubs and wheels

Outside Magazine reported in July 2020 that the company was "saved" by a French investment group, Bourrelier, after going into receivership − the equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy − the previous May. Outside reported the new ownership of Mavic intended to shift the company's focus back to rims, hubs and wheels, and away from its accessory line of clothing, shoes and helmets.

Mavic's U.S. operation will reconnect with historic and past accounts, according to a news release, in addition to developing new customers. Josh Saxe, sales and marketing manager for North America, said in a statement that the Waterbury team has "a wealth of knowledge and experience."

"We'll be bringing our perspective directly from the field to inform what comes next," Saxe said. "We have a lot of new and exciting products to share, and while our focus absolutely includes the sales and marketing around these products, we are emphasizing supporting our customers both new and old, while also participating in our local community and grassroots efforts."
