Max exec confirms ‘Velma’ Season 2 is happening

Mindy Kaling’s poorly received animated series “Velma” has been renewed for another season on Max, formerly known as HBO Max.
Key details: Suzanna Makkos, Max and Adult Swim’s executive vice president of original comedy and adult animation, confirmed the renewal during her "Share With” session at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Thursday.
Makkos revealed that "Velma" Season 2 is now in production and is slated for a 2024 release. The update comes just months after reports that Max was developing the popular show’s second season.
About “Velma”: A reimagination of the origins of Mystery Inc., “Velma” follows the story of Velma Dinkley (voiced by Kaling) as she attempts to find out the truth behind both her mother's disappearance and the murders of various teenage girls at Crystal Cove.

In addition to Kaling, the show's voice cast includes Constance Wu as Daphne Blake, Glenn Howerton as Fred Jones and Sam Richardson as Norville Rogers (Shaggy).
Velma made headlines last year after it was revealed that Kaling's version of Velma would be of South Asian descent.
Poor reception: “Velma,” which Kaling is also an executive producer of, was met with mostly negative reviews when it premiered on Max on Jan. 12. Despite this, the series reportedly became so popular that it was viewed more than Max's "The Last of Us" at one point.

As of this writing, “Velma” currently has a 1.6 out of 10 rating on IMDB. The series also received a 7% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
