May events at the Norwalk Public Library

Apr. 20—NORWALK — The Norwalk Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.

Here are the May events at the library:

Homesteading on May 1st at 6:00 pm: President of the Huron County Chapter of the National Ladies Homestead Gathering, Shannon Ditz, discusses modern homesteading, urban homesteading, and how her local chapter supports women through homesteading. Registration begins Monday, April 10th.

I Spy Party on May 2nd at 4:30 pm: For 1st through 5th grades. Undergo spy training, then decipher clues and puzzles to complete three separate missions. Registration begins Tuesday, April 11th.

Birding 101 on May 3rd at 11:00 am: Join Georgia Bobryk of the Firelands Audobon Society to learn birding basics such as bird nomenclature, techniques for identification, and when/where to bird. Registration begins Wednesday, April 12th.

1A Anime on May 3rd at 4:30 pm: For 6th through 8th grades. Try various ramen flavors while watching the Studio Ghibli film, Ponyo. Registration begins Wednesday, April 12th.

StoryTime on May 4th, May 11th, May 18th, and May 25th at 10:00 am: For ages 0-5. Enjoy a selection of picture books and educational activities. Registration is not required.

Music & Movement on May 5th and May 19th at 10:00 am: For ages 2-5. Through song and dance, kids are encouraged to get silly and let that excess energy out. Registration is not required.

Salsa Showdown on May 8th at 4:30 pm: For 6th through 8th grades. Make traditional salsa, fruit salsa, and a Tuscan bread salad called panzanella. Registration begins Monday, April 17th.

Nest Fest on May 9th at 4:30 pm: For families. Celebrate feathered friends with read aloud stories and themed crafts. Registration begins Tuesday, April 18th.

Hot Chocolate Chapters on May 10th at 4:30 pm: For kindergarten through 2nd grades. Hunker down with a cup of hot chocolate as our staff reads the first chapter from a book. Registration is not required.

Homeschool Hangout on May 11th at 1:00 pm: For families. After exploring the science of buoyancy, build boats to race across a kiddie pool. Registration begins Thursday, April 20th.

Wine Tasting on May 11th at 6:30 pm: For ages 21+. Sample four wine and cheese pairings, provided and served by D & D Smith Winery. Registration begins Thursday, April 20th.

Composting on May 15th at 6:00 pm: Composting, aka nature's way of recycling, not only helps reduce waste, but also builds healthier soil, conserves water, and improves plant growth. Discover how to start composting at home with Shannon Ditz. Registration begins Monday, April 24th.

Kids in the Kitchen Jr. on May 16th at 4:30 pm: For kindergarten through 2nd grades. Prepare authentic agua fresca, which is Spanish for fresh water, and guacamole. Registration begins Tuesday, April 25th.

Adult Book Club on May 17th at 4:30 pm and May 20th at 12:00 pm: The Husbands by Chandler Baker is available at the Main Desk. Registration begins Wednesday, April 26th.

Wind Chimes on May 22nd at 6:00 pm: Welcome summer with beaded wind chimes. Registration begins Monday, May 1st.

Book Bug Battle on May 23rd at 6:00 pm: For 1st through 8th grades. Bring all the Book Bugs trading cards you earned throughout the school year to participate in our first-ever tournament. Players will battle it out 1v1 until a single winner remains. Registration begins Tuesday, May 2nd.

Dementia Care on May 24th at 3:00 pm: The Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter presents a combination of two programs: Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia and 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's. Event concludes with a Q&A. Registration begins Wednesday, May 3rd.

Best Book Club Ever on May 30th at 4:30 pm: For 6th through 8th grades. Eragon by Christopher Paolini is available at the Children's Desk. Registration is not required.

I Survived Book Club on May 30th at 4:30 pm: For 3rd through 5th grades. I Survived the California Wildfires, 2018 by Lauren Tarshis is available at the Children's Desk. Registration is not required.
