May the Fourth Be With You: Here's where to celebrate Star Wars Day in North Jersey

The force is strong in the Garden State Thursday, or rather the Fourth, as New Jersey celebrates Star Wars Day. That means there are plenty of local events commemorating the unofficial holiday that has taken the galaxy by storm.

The New Jersey Twitter account had some fun for May the Fourth on Thursday adding Grogu to some Jersey-themed entertainment.

For the uninitiated, May 4, or May the Fourth, is the day in which fans honor all things "Star Wars," a nod to the iconic quote "May the force be with you." The holiday has since achieved mainstream status, with celebrations around the world.

For anyone looking to celebrate the Skywalkers, twin suns and the rest of the interplanetary canon, here's a list of how you can — in the words of Chancellor Palpatine — "Do it."

Star Wars Day parties for kids in North Jersey

The Clifton Main Memorial Library is hosting a free Star Wars-themed party for kids aged 5 and up at 4:30 p.m. The party will include games and crafts.

Registration can be done at cliftonpl.org under the calendar tab or by calling the children's room at 973-772-5500. Space is limited.

The Nutley Free Public Library is hosting a similar event for kids, though no registration is required. The party will have activities and crafts for children of all ages.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Star Wars trivia in North Jersey

Uno Pizzeria & Grill in Clifton is hosting "Star Wars" trivia Thursday at 7 p.m. Organizers urge that costumes are encouraged, though not required. To secure a spot, call 973-574-1303 for a reservation.

The Little Falls Public Library is also hosting a trivia event at 7, open to all ages. Refreshments will be served. Anyone under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Registration is open here: littlefallslibrary.org/Pages/Index/183489/upcoming-events.

Force-themed happy hour

1776 by David Burke in Morristown is hosting a Star Wars happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, followed by live music from Maura Band from 6 to 9.

Star Wars screenings

Star Wars Day is nothing without the movies themselves, right? Well don't worry because local theaters are showing "Star Wars: A New Hope."

The Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee is showing the sci-fi classic at 7:30 p.m., with adult tickets going for $15 and children and seniors for $10.

Out Montclair is also putting on what they call the "ultimate Star Wars fan event" at Montclair film at 6:30 for ages 16 and up. In addition to a screening of "A New Hope," there will also be trivia, a cosplay contest, themed food and drinks and Star Wars merchandise.

The New Jersey Symphony is also hosting a cool Star Wars show, though not on May the Fourth. From May 18 to 21, the symphony will be performing the music from "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back."

The four performances will be held at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown on the 18th, the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank on the 19th, NJPAC on May 20 and the State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick on May 21.
