From Cosmopolitan

Many of my conversations with friends lately include my asking something like, "So, um, what have you been watching?" Cause now that we all find ourselves at home with extra time on our hands, I have been *zooming* through my to-watch list and I'm in desperate need of some new recs. Which is why I'm so happy that I was turned on to Making the Cut, aka my new reality TV show obsession.

For those of y'all who have no idea what I'm talking about (and hello, welcome), Making the Cut is a fashion competition hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. And if the first thing that comes to your mind is Project Runway, a) same, and b) if you're a Project Runway fan, I'd bet money that you'll also like Making the Cut.

The show brings together designers from around the world—there are people from Israel, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, and America—competing to become the "next global fashion brand" and win a $1 million prize. In the premiere episode, Heidi mentions that the competition will be full of surprises, and within the first ten minutes the designers are whisked from NYC to Paris.

Unlike Project Runway, though, this competition focuses more on the design process and what goes into conceptualizing a piece rather than, like, how fast the designers can sew. It's still very satisfying to see clothing go from a sketch to a garment and to watch Tim Gunn walk around and give designers feedback on their pieces.

In the first episode, the challenge the designers face is preparing two looks for a runway show that will take place in front of the Eiffel Tower (casual), and we see the competitors go from finding inspiration in the streets of Paris to sending models down the catwalk. There are trips to the fabric store, some almost-meltdowns, races against the clock, and Tim tutting at designs he doesn't like. It's all very positive, though, and the designers help each other out in a pinch, which is exactly the kind of heartwarming content I need at the moment.

And if you haven't already clicked out of this article to start watching, I'll also mention that other highlights include Tim and Heidi's beyond-adorable relationship (truly, is there anything more pure?) and the celebrity judges, which include Nicole Richie and Naomi Campbell.

It's also not your typical reality competition, because we never know what's going to happen next—we don't know how many people are going home each week, or what type of challenge is around the corner (it's not all runway shows). So do yourself a favor and sign up for Amazon Prime to start watching.

Now please excuse me while I delve into episode two!
