Maybrook passenger dies in car crash on Palisades Parkway in Haverstraw

A Maybrook passenger died in a single-car accident on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Haverstraw early Sunday morning, state police said.

The driver, identified by a state police statement as Bernadine Ramtahal-Thomas, 34, a New York City Police officer who is also from Maybrook, was listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

At about 3 a.m., a 2021 Hyundai was traveling north near exit 13, went off the road and crashed into a tree, according to a police statement.

The passenger, Chevy Thomas, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. The investigation continues and state police asked that anyone with information call 845-344-5300.

State Police were assisted by Thiells Fire Department, Stony Point Fire Department, Haverstraw Ambulance, and Hatzoloh EMS.
