FISHERSVILLE — A documentary presenting the sides of African-American, Cape Verdean and Wampanoag people in the Mayflower story is set to be screened at the Fishersville branch of the Augusta County Library on Thursday, Aug. 10.

"Journeys in the Light, Democracy, Diversity, and Myth in the Wake of the Mayflower" is a one-hour documentary that explores the stories and perspectives of those communities after the arrival of English settlers in Cape Cod in 1620. The screening will begin at 5:30 p.m. It is free to the public, and will be followed with a question and answer session with filmmaker Janey Murphy Robinson and representatives of the sponsoring organizations.

The screening is sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Juneteenth Organization, the Staunton Branch of the NAACP, the Augusta County Historical Society, and the Staunton Education Foundation.

According to a press release, "Journeys in the Light tells its tale through the eyes, historical research, and works of art of the vibrant community surrounding Zion Union Heritage Museum in Hyannis, MA." The film was produced in collaboration with the museum and features Cape Cod artists and local historians.
