Jacksonville’s Mayo Clinic continues to make progress on major additions to its sprawling medical campus off San Pablo Road.

The city's Building Inspections Division recently approved permits to begin work on the foundations for a new oncology facility. The work will cost about $76.3 million, according to the permits.

The foundations are only part of a much bigger project on the $233 million facility that will include proton beam therapy for cancer patients. The building itself will span 200,000 square feet and will house the first carbon ion therapy center in North America, according to Mayo.
