Mayor of New Brockton settling into new job

NEW BROCKTON, Ala. (WDHN) — After over two months on the job, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Chuck Schieffer, the new mayor of New Brockton, is getting settled into his new role.

Schieffer was selected as the new mayor in November 2023 with the hope of providing a sense of stability to the position.

“Been an interesting couple of months and right now we are starting to move forward with several different projects,” Schieffer says

In December of 2022, longtime mayor Kathy Holley resigned due to family obligations and she said she could no longer dedicate the time needed to run the city effectively. She also mentioned that she could no longer be a part of the direction, where council members wanted to take the town.

Holley was replaced by Ralph Medley who served as the interim mayor until Schieffer was selected for the position.

He introduced himself on Monday to the Coffee County Commission and will serve as mayor until at least January 2025.

Bringing with him years of military experience, while already pinpointing some changes he would like to see in the town during his term.

“I’m trying to accomplish a couple of things, one is some of the improvements around some of the passageways and roads,” Schieffer says. “We have had areas that have been neglected over time.”

While also wanting to implement some technological changes in the town.

“You know there are a lot of things in the administration of the city that can be better handled computer-wise to make things easier on my clerks and administrative assistants,” Schieffer says.

Schieffer says he also wants to continue to build a good working relationship with the town council with an overall goal of making New Brockton the best town it can be.
