Mayor Chirico Reacts To Controversy Over Florida Wedding: Report

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico is at the center of controversy after he attended his daughter's wedding in Florida over the weekend, according to ABC 7.
A woman who identified herself as Chirico's niece tweeted the mayor attended the wedding "with at least 50 people at it." She also shared screenshots of photos showing an unmasked group of people, including Mayor Chirico, posing for a photo.

Kristin Chirico added, "I can't believe I have to say this but if you are HAVING A WEDDING THIS WEEKEND WITH UNMASKED PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE something is wrong with you!!!!"
Mayor Chirico told ABC Chicago the event was held outdoors with just over 50 people and that he and his family tested negative for coronavirus prior to the event.
Chirico plans to get tested again and follow quarantine protocol, he told the outlet.
When Gov. J.B. Pritzker introduced a ban on indoor dining, Chirico wrote a letter to the governor criticizing the decision and pleading, "Reconsider the indoor dining mitigation and allow our bars and restaurants to immediately reopen their doors safely."
The governor has also faced questions as to whether he would be following health officials' guidance and staying in Illinois for Thanksgiving or traveling. He ultimately said he and his son will spend Thanksgiving in Chicago, and his wife and daughter will remain in Florida.
