Mayor Craig Greenberg will be Sen. Rand Paul's guest at the State of the Union address, Greenberg said Tuesday.

The Louisville mayor is "grateful to receive an invitation to attend the State of the Union – an opportunity of a lifetime," he said.

It will be held March 7 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

"I’m excited to have Mayor Greenberg as my guest at the State of the Union," Paul said in a statement to The Courier Journal. "We have a good working relationship and have met several times to discuss Louisville issues and each time our discussions have been pleasant and free from partisanship."

Mayor Craig Greenberg speaks during the announcement of a new building for the school on Monday, February 26, 2024. A new building that will serve as a hub for next-generation engineering education, research and student life, all aimed at driving the growth of Kentucky’s technology-enabled economy.

It will be President Joe Biden's third annual address to Congress — and his last before the 2024 presidential election.

Biden will have the chance to outline policy achievements and future priorities in the address. Last year, his speech touched on the war in Ukraine, insulin prices, banning assault weapons and economic recovery, among other topics.

Greenberg will also attend the Yale Mayors College while he is in the nation's capital.
