NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell made a trip to Santa Barbara, California to attend the United States Conference of Mayors’ Winter Leadership Meeting.

From Feb. 15 to the 17, Cantrell, along with several other mayors from across the country, will attend a series of meetings focused on mayors engaging together and bringing city priorities and further growth concepts directly to the White House.

According to City of New Orleans officials, Cantrell currently serves as a member of the USCM Board of Trustees and Co-Chair of the USCM Infrastructure Law Implementation Task Force, with Arlington, Texas Mayor Jim Ross.

Other mayors in attendance include:

  • Mayor Elizabeth Kautz of Burnsville, Minnesota Past USCM President

  • Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird of Lincoln, Nebraska

  • Mayor Scott Brook of Coral Springs, Florida

  • Mayor Todd Gloria of San Diego

  • Mayor Christina Muryn of Findlay, Ohio

While attending the meeting, Cantrell will sit on a panel to discuss “Mayors’ Mental Health Solution and Best Practices.” She will focus on the funding the city is making available to have mental health programs accessible in New Orleans.

City officials said the funding includes the unprecedented $10 million investment to fund medical and mental health support for youth and the city’s Mobile Crisis Intervention Unit that will respond to behavioral health calls.

“By addressing this critical issue head-on, in partnership with our healthcare community, the City of New Orleans aims to continue the work of destigmatizing the need for additional mental health support. This panel will be moderated by USCM President Schieve, who also serves as Chair of the USCM Mental Health Task Force,” said City of New Orleans officials.

Once Cantrell returns, she will continue coordination of Super Bowl LIX with a unified city leadership press conference on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee.
