Mayor Meehan wins reelection, Ocean City Town Council welcomes 2 newcomers

Ocean City's mayoral seat and three council seats were up for grabs during this year's municipal election.

Mayor Rick Meehan ran unopposed, earning a total of 1,760 votes.

Meehan has been the mayor of Ocean City since June 12, 2006, when he replaced Jim Mathias. He has successfully secured reelection every two years since then. Meehan has been a staple in the resort town since the 1980s, where he also served a 14-year term as council president prior to his mayoral election.

The Ocean City Town Council welcomes one familiar face and two newcomers following Tuesday's municipal election.

Matthew James obtained the most votes, earning a total of 1,566 votes.

James, council president, was elected to the Town Council in November 2014. This win secures his third consecutive term. James also serves on the Tourism Commission and Police Commission. In addition, he has been an active volunteer with the Ocean City Fire Department since 2006 and currently serves as a Lieutenant.

New arrival William "Will" Savage III also earned a spot on the council, bringing in 1,436 votes.

Savage is a longtime Ocean City resident, Boardwalk business owner and member of the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company. He grew up helping his family manage the Majestic Hotel on 6th Street. The property has since been sold in April.

Carol Proctor, a political newcomer, received 1,247 votes to also earn a council seat.

Proctor, similar to Savage, is a fresh face on the political stage. Having worked as a licensed real estate agent and in banking with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services in Ocean City for the last 25 years, Proctor now joins James and Savage on the town council.

Candidate Mark Paddack, who earned 749 votes, fell short of a second-term victory in Ocean City on Tuesday.
