Mayor of Russian Krasnodar to take over as head of occupied Kherson Oblast

Alekseenko will replace collaborator Volodymyr Saldo, who is currently in intensive care. According to media reports, on July 13, Saldo was said to have been admitted to hospital due to health reasons related to cancer, and had been visiting Israel for medical treatment prior to the full-scale invasion. In early August, Saldo stated that he was transferring his powers to former FSB official Sergey Eliseev, who took over as the “acting chairman” of the occupational government. Saldo is now said to be in a coma.

Alekseenko has been in charge of Krasnodar since November 2021. Before that, he worked as the vice-governor of the Russian region of Krasnodar Krai. In December 2021, a criminal case was opened against him due to suspicions of bribe-taking.
