The federal investigation into whether mounted Border Patrol agents committed any wrongdoing in mid-September has yet to be concluded despite a vow from the Biden administration that it would be wrapped up in a matter of days.

"The investigation is ongoing. The Department is committed to a thorough, independent, and objective process. We are also committed to transparency and will release the results of the investigation once it is complete," a Department of Homeland Security spokesman wrote in an email to the Washington Examiner.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified in Congress on Sept. 22 that the department's review of horse patrol agents who were filmed attempting to keep Haitian migrants from getting past them on the riverbank in Del Rio, Texas, would be fast. Mayorkas said a conclusion would be reached within "a matter of days, not weeks."

Amid public speculation that they whipped the border-crossers, the agents were condemned by officials and President Joe Biden, who said, "I promise you, those people will pay." Advocates for the agents said the comments would make a fair investigation impossible.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency within DHS that oversees the Border Patrol and initially launched the investigation, declined to comment and referred the Washington Examiner to DHS.
