MBTA releases 2023 Fall schedule
Fall is almost here which means the MBTA is making changes to bus, subway, and ferry service.
Effective today August 27, fall schedules are in effect for subway and bus. According to the MBTA, changes include improvements to weekday frequency on the Red, Orange, and blue Lines, plus departure time, last trip time, frequency, & routing changes across modes.
Subway Service Changes:
Effective August 27, 2023
Green Line
Due to updated travel times, departure times change on the E Line throughout the day on weekdays and on all lines throughout the day on weekends.
Last trip times adjust on all lines on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to better coordinate with last train connections.
Mattapan Line
A 1:18 a.m. eastbound trip and a 1:35 a.m. westbound trip are added on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to better coordinate with last-train connections.
On weekdays, the 12:53 a.m. eastbound trip shifts to 12:51 a.m., and the 1:05 a.m. westbound trip shifts to 1:03 a.m.
Red Line
Weekday frequency improves from every nine minutes to every 7 to 8 minutes during the morning peak period due to track improvements.
Weekend frequency improves from every 11 minutes to every 9 to 10 minutes.
Last trip times adjust on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to better coordinate with last train connections.
Orange Line
Weekday frequency improves from every 10 minutes to every nine minutes due to new rail car availability.
Last trip times adjust on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to better coordinate with last train connections.
Sunday frequency decreases from every 10 to 11 minutes to 13 minutes to revert to the standard Sunday service.
Blue Line
Weekday frequency improves from every 10 to 11 minutes to 6 to 7 minutes between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., and from every 8 to 9 minutes to 8 minutes between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. due to track improvements.
Departure times change throughout the day on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays due to updated travel times.
Last trip times adjust on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays to better coordinate with last train connections.

117 | Weekday frequency increases between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and between 3:30 PM and 6:30 p.m. |
120 | 6:35 a.m. inbound trip to Maverick shifts to 6:31 a.m.; 6:51 a.m. outbound regular trip added. |
216 | Weekday frequency increases between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. |
220 | Weekday frequency increases between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. |
222 | Weekday frequency increases between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. |

51 | Weekday 6:35 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. outbound, 7:43 a.m. inbound, and 3:15 inbound trips serving St. Joseph’s Preparatory are eliminated due to the school’s closure. |
66 | Weekday 6:39 a.m. outbound trip serving Brighton High School is eliminated due to low ridership. Departure times shift for remaining school trips. |
94 | Weekday 7:05 a.m. outbound trip serving Medford High School is eliminated due to available capacity on the 7 a.m. trip. |
120 | Weekday 6:25 a.m. outbound Waldemar loop trip is eliminated due to low ridership. |
137 | Weekday 2:10 p.m. outbound and 2:45 p.m. inbound trips serving Melrose High School are eliminated due to low ridership. Weekday frequency decreases between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. |

450 | With the reopening of the Sumner Tunnel, service resumes to downtown Boston. |
455 | Service to Congress St and Leavitt St will be eliminated due to difficulties with traveling on Leavitt St. |
714 | All trips will operate consistently via Rockland St and Nantasket Ave and eliminate variant service to Hull Medical Center and via Washington Blvd on weekdays. |
If your bus route is affected, the MBTA recommends using trip planner to find alternative service.
Ferry Service Changes:
Effective October 10, 2023
After Columbus Day Weekend, the following service changes will be made:
All service will pause until the spring for these ferries: East Boston (F3) Lynn (F5) Winthrop (F6)
Weekend service will pause until the spring for the Hingham – Hull – Logan Airport – Long Wharf Ferry (F2H) ferry
The RIDE Service Changes:
There are no planned service changes to The RIDE at this time.
Commuter Rail service changes will go into effect in October. Details on those changes will be published in September.
