MBTA officials say Orange Line service to return to normal after multiple trains vandalized

Multiple Orange Line trains were vandalized Tuesday night causing afternoon delays for commuters, but services are expected to be running normally Wednesday night, the MBTA said.

“Repair work and window replacements have progressed at a good pace, and we expect to have enough Orange Line trains for the PM commute to meet the schedules implemented last week,” according to an MBTA spokesperson.

Transit police said that some windows were maliciously damaged and they are looking into the incident.

Last week, the MBTA pulled all new Red and Orange Line trains out of service after an out-of-service car experienced a battery failure.

Recent schedule changes have also created longer wait times for riders with fewer cars in service.

The schedule changes were implemented a day after the Federal Transit Administration issued a scathing report on the lack of safety at the MBTA.

The FTA found the MBTA to be short-staffed to the point where the trains were not safe for riders.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
