McBroom will be replacing outgoing Vice Mayor Christa Martin, who announced earlier this year she would not be seeking re-election, stepping down after 30 years of service as a key member of Columbia City Council. Martin was recently honored with a Legacy Award.

During his campaign, McBroom said Martin was the one who encouraged him to run.

"She was the second person I talked to about running, the first one being [former Mayor] Dean Dickey, because he's family," McBroom said. "When I spoke with Christa, she said, 'Go ahead Randy, stick your head out there and see how you'll like it.'"

McBroom, as well as Mayor Chaz Molder, who was voted to a second term, will officially be sworn in by Columbia City Council in January.
