McCallsburg man killed, 2 seriously injured in two-vehicle crash Saturday

A two-vehicle collision Saturday evening left one man dead and two people seriously injured, the Story County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

The crash occurred at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 130th Street (county road E-18) and 630th Avenue, between Roland and McCallsburg.

A red 2017 Nissan Maxima was traveling south on 630th. The vehicle allegedly failed to cease at the posted stop sign at the intersection of 130th, the sheriff’s investigation and witness reports indicated. The vehicle was broadsided on the driver’s side by a gray 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, which had a driver and no passengers.

McCallsburg resident Tanner Crooks, 31, was the driver of the Nissan Maxima and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His passenger was a 32-year-old woman from Boone, whose name has not been released. She was seriously injured and was transported to an area hospital by air ambulance.

The single occupant of the Silverado was a 56-year-old woman from Story City, whose name has not been released. The person was also seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital by air ambulance, according to the sheriff’s report.
