MCCC awards scholarships

The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded several scholarships.

• The $2,550 Ethel K. (Russeau) Fountain Endowed Scholarship was awarded to Jake Bradley, Denny Davidson, Miranda Dickerson, Timothy Hall, Kayla Harmon, Dustin Holycross, Andrew LaBeau, Marc Lemle, Travis Lindquist, Brendan Marcangelo-Skipper and Zachary Miller.

Bradley of Carleton is a 2023 graduate of Airport High School. He is pursing an Associate of Science degree in the pre-engineering pathway with the goal of becoming a computer hardware engineer. He is the son of Dean Bradley and Valerie Bradley.

Davidson Newport is a 2023 graduate of Jefferson High School. He plans to study environmental engineering with plans to pursue a bachelor’s or higher degree. He is the son of Cindy Davidson and Mark Davidson.

Dickerson of Petersburg is a 2023 graduate of the Monroe County Middle College. She plans to earn a welding certificate. At MCMC she attained more than 200 volunteer and community service hours and has worked as a student assistant at MCCC in the grounds keeping and maintenance area. She is the daughter of Tyler and Carrie Dickerson.

Hall of Lambertville is a 2021 graduate of Bedford High School, where he graduated with honors. He is pursuing a degree in welding and has been named to the dean’s list. He is the son of Anthony Hall and Cherise Hall.

Harmon of Monroe is a 2023 graduate of Monroe High School. She is planning to study environmental engineering and transfer to the University of Toledo. While at MHS, she was a member of National Honor Society, marching band and a pep band for basketball. She is the daughter of Scott Klug and Holly Klug.

Holycross of Ida is a 2023 graduate of Ida High School. He is planning to study construction management or engineering and transfer to a four-year university. While at IHS, he was dual-enrolled at MCCC and played varsity soccer for four years and was captain and first team all-league. He volunteered with Lambertville United Methodist Church Youth Group and the Ida Band Boosters organization. He is the son of Brian Holycross and Vicki Holycross.

LaBeau of Newport is a 2023 graduate of Jefferson High School. He will be studying nuclear engineering technology. While at JHS, he was a member of the football team and received the most improved player award as a senior. He was active in National Honor Society and is a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. He is the son of Kevin LaBeau and Susan LaBeau.

Lemle of Monroe is a 1997 graduate of Mason High School. He is studying automotive engineering technology and has worked for 23 years in automotive. He is the father of Relic V. Lawson and Nathen Rhoades, partner of Christy D. Rhoades and son of Walther H. Lemle and Debbie S. Lemle.

Lindquist of Temperance is a 2013 graduate of Ida High School. He is pursuing studies in welding technology, with plans to transfer his credits to Ferris State University. In addition to working full-time, he is a volunteer with the Dundee Senior Citizen Center and United Way of Monroe and Lenawee Counties. He is the son of David Lindquist and Terry Lindquist.

Marcangelo-Skipper of Ida is a 2023 graduate of Great Lakes Learning Academy. He is pursuing a certificate in welding. He has been a counselor-in-training at the Judson Collins Camp and volunteers in community projects with his church and projects to help the homeless. He is the son of Paul Skipper and Veronica Marcangelo.

Miller of Newport is a 2021 graduate of Monroe High School. He is working toward an associate degree in electrical engineering technology and has been named to the dean’s list. Hevolunteers at the Mable Kehres Senior Apartment, teaching residents about technology. He is also active with the National Down Syndrome Society, Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network. He is the son of Robert Miller and Rhonda Miller.

• The $3,200 William J. and Hildreth C. Braunlich Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sydney Hypio of Carleton, a 2023 graduate of St. Mary Catholic Central High School. She is studying nursing. At SMCC, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, Respect Life Club and Student Prevention Leadership Team and was a student ambassador. She is the daughter of Mary Hypio and Joseph Hypio.

• The $1,350 C. Ernest Read Scholarship was awarded to Brooklyn Kayson of South Rockwood, a 2021 graduate of Airport High School. She is studying graphic design/digital media. She is a notetaker with the Disability Support Services department, a Writing Fellow tutor and an employee in the campus store. She is also working toward a Global Studies Degree Designation and is a member of MCCC’s Honor Program and Phi Theta Kappa. She is the daughter of Justin and Melissa Kayson.

• The $1,575 Elizabeth and Samuel Campbell Memorial Scholarships was awarded to Jillian Fell, Kylie Heebsh, Yasir Memon and Caleb Ramsey.

Fell of Newport is a 2021 graduate of Airport High School. She is working toward an Associate of Science degree. While at AHS, she was secretary of her class and Health Occupations Students of America; president of the Spanish Club; vice president of the National Technical Honor Society; treasurer of Interact Club; and member of Varsity Choir, Distributive Education Clubs of America, MY Lead, Rotary Youth Leadership Academy and National Honor Society. At Eastern Michigan University, she was a member of the Student Nurses’ Association and a Mentor Collective Ambassador. She is the daughter of Richard and Jennifer Fell.

Heebsh of Temperance is a 2023 graduate of Bedford High School. She is studying early childhood development. She is a volunteer with March of Dimes and is the daughter of Ken Heebsh and Jennifer Heebsh.

Memon of Monroe is a 2016 graduate of Maumee Valley High School. Memon is working toward an Associate of Applied Science degree. He has a leadership role in Universal Health Aid Monroe Chapter, regularly volunteers at local soup kitchens and for canned food drives. He makes care packages for the homeless and is active in Boy Scouts.

Ramsey of Ida is a 2023 graduate of Ida High School. He is working toward an Associate of Applied Science degree. He has volunteered with the annual craft show for Christmas in Ida. He is the son of Marcus Ramsey and Denise Ramsey.

• The $250 George Rhodes Scholarship was to Justin Schley of Newport, a 2012 homeschool graduate. He is pursuing an Associate of Science degree in pre-engineering with plans to transfer to the University of Michigan to study artificial intelligence. He is a member of MCCC's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and tutors students in math and computer science. He is the son of Julie Schley and Kendall Schley and father to Dimitri Schley.
