McDonald's Is Offering Select Menu Items for Less Than 35 Cents — Here's How to Get Them

As a tribute to the early days of McDonald's, the fast-food chain is offering some of their signature menu items for mere pennies.

McDonald's, which was founded in San Bernardino in 1955, introduced their Throwback Thursdays promotion earlier this month as a nod to the nostalgic prices from decades ago. The offer includes multiple fan-favorite menu items that are 35 cents or less.

The promotion is running every Thursday now through February 18. To participate, customers must make a minimum purchase of $1 through the McDonald's app. Once the minimum is hit, the designated menu item of the day will be offered.

While the Throwback Thursday Deals have already been running for two weeks, there are still some exciting offers ahead. On January 28th small shakes are only 25 cents; February 4th features 20 cent apple pies; large fries are just 35 cents on February 11; and a classic cheeseburger can be yours for 25 cents on February 18.

This deal won't last forever, but McDonald's is introducing a few new menu items this year — and one of them is vegan-friendly.

The fast-food chain is taking a stab at meatless burgers with its very own plant-based protein, which they're calling the McPlant. McDonald's will begin testing the menu item — which they say could be used in burgers, breakfast sandwiches and other items — in select regions globally before a wide-scale rollout.

"McPlant is crafted exclusively for McDonald's, by McDonald's," Ian Borden, McDonald's international president, said at a virtual investor meeting in November, according to USA Today. "In the future, McPlant could extend across a line of plant-based products including burgers, chicken-substitutes and breakfast sandwiches."

In a blog post, McDonald's said they began testing their first plant-based burger in Canada in 2019: "Based on what we learned and an encouraging response, we're excited to give you a sneak preview of the McPlant – a delicious plant-based burger crafted for McDonald's, by McDonald's, and with the kind of craveable McDonald's flavor our customers love."
