Are you ready, Grey’s fans? While Derek Shepherd (aka Dr. McDreamy) can’t exactly return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Patrick Demspey can return to your regularly scheduled programming — which is exactly what’s happening this fall. Devils, an international thriller starring the beloved actor, is joining The CW’s fall TV lineup. And, not surprisingly, it sounds riveting.

Produced in Italy by Sky Italia, the drama features the former Grey’s star as London investment bank CEO Dominic Morgan. He plays opposite Alessandro Borghi (Netflix’s Suburra), who brings to the screen a charismatic yet ruthless head of trading at the bank by the name of Massimo Ruggero. When a heated promotion battle leads to Dempsey’s Dominic choosing another colleague over Massimo, a murder investigation quickly follows. And as Massimo fights to clear his name, he winds up pitted against his mentor.

Whew! That’s a lot of suspense to look forward to. Plus, make no mistake we’re being wildly superficial here, we can’t wait to see how fantastic Dempsey’s hair looks set against the smart tailoring of Italian menswear. Of course, we’ll have to wait a few months to feast our eyes on that international coif — The CW’s fall premieres rolled out in early October last year. Once the fall lineup drops, though, Devils is slated to run on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. Here’s a sneak peek of the official Italian trailer.

Due to the coronavirus, production on most scripted TV originals stopped earlier this year. As such, networks like The CW have pushed the return of those series to 2021. To fill in the gaps this fall, they’re turning to international series that had finished filming prior to the pandemic shutdown.

Devils was undoubtedly a no-brainer, considering it stars a U.S. actor as widely recognizable as Dempsey and is English-language. The timing also feels pretty on-the-nose. The book the show is based on was partly inspired by the financial crisis that swept the globe in 2008. It’s no secret, of course, that the pandemic has pushed modern financial markets close to a similar crisis.

Final fun fact? While he won’t be resurrecting McDreamy, Dempsey will be revisiting Grey’s in a way. The CW’s Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz was formerly tied to Touchstone Television and, in that capacity, worked with the actor on the first five seasons of ABC’s iconic medical drama.
