Feb. 22—RALEIGH — Mike McIntyre, former U.S. House representative for District 7, has been bestowed the John B. McMillian Distinguished Service Award.

The State Bar's highest honor recognizes demonstrated exemplary service to the legal profession, a release says. McIntyre served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2015.

The release says the award honors McIntyre for "work to enhance and strengthen legal education to further the public's understanding of and confidence in the rule of law and the justice system" and for encouraging "professionalism among Bar Members."

Additionally, it said he has spent professional time and resources to assure equal access to the judicial system, and to improve the quality of legal services rendered by the profession.

McIntyre is the senior advisor for Government Relations and Economic Development in the Raleigh office of the law firm Ward and Smith.
