McKinney to become new interim school superintendent in Milton

Rosmarin also announced the committee has reached a tentative contract agreement with Peter Burrows, who is scheduled to start work as the permanent superintendent on July 1. Burrows is currently head of the Addison Central School District in Vermont.

The school committee is scheduled to hold a special meeting Monday morning to approve Burrows contract, Rosmarin said.

McKinney has been the system's assistant school superintendent for curriculum and human resources since July 1. Before that, he was interim school superintendent of the Nashua, New Hampshire schools.

Rosmarin said the school committee is "very appreciative" of McKinney agreeing to take on the interim role, saying it would bring stability in school leadership.

"We believe it is best to handle this transition in-house," she said.

The school committee will vote on McKinney's appointment at its Feb. 1 meeting.

McKinney has worked for more than two decades in education and was the assistant principal of an elementary school and Nashua's assistant school superintendent for elementary education. In 2013, he was named New Hampshire Teacher of the Year by the New Hampshire Council of Teachers of English.

He holds a doctorate in education from Boston College, a master's in education as a reading teacher from Fordham University and a bachelor's in elementary education from Stonehill College.

Rosmarin said that Burrows will spend a few days in Milton between now and July 1 to prepare for his new job.
