McKinney and Yeti Wildfires Burn a Combined 67,000 Acres in Northern California

The Yeti and McKinney wildfires had burned a combined 67,000 acres near Happy Camp, California, by August 7, according to fire officials.

Jeremiah LaRue, the sheriff of Siskiyou County, recorded this footage from Highway 96, after a community meeting with residents about the fires.

The sheriff’s department reported that the McKinney Fire had spread to 60,109 acres and was 40 percent contained, while the Yeti Fire covered 7,721 acres and was 10 percent contained.

Police announced that some residents subject to a mandatory evacuation were allowed to return home but warned against complacency as the fires were still burning.
