McLaren revealed its newest entry into the GT4 category, the Artura GT4, in a press release on Tuesday. Based on its newly launched mid-engine sports car, the Artura GT4 eschews its hybrid drivetrain for purely internal combustion power, promising more performance and better reliability over the outgoing 570S GT4.

Because GT4 regulations don't allow for hybrid powertrains, the Artura GT4 can't use its trick hybrid motor found in the road car. Instead, it makes do with only the 120-degree twin-turbo V-6, along with a seven-speed transmission with a real reverse gear and a mechanical limited-slip differential—things the road-going Artura doesn't have.

The lack of an electric motor and the supporting batteries means the Artura GT4 is 286 pounds lighter than the road car, and 220 pounds lighter than the 570S GT4. There's also a wider front track, better brake wear, retuned damping, and importantly, reduced fuel consumption. The engine runs on a Bosch Motorsport ECU, with driver aids such as TPMS, a telemetry system, and data logging available as options. Depending on the type of racing you plan to do, there are also endurance options available, such as additional lights, a drink system, and an air jack system.

"With lighter weight, extremely precise handling characteristics and enhanced durability—as well as the packaging and efficiency advantages and all-round serviceability for mechanics of the new V6 powertrain—the Artura GT4 will set new class standards, as we are already seeing from our extensive test and development program," McLaren director of motorsport Ian Morgan said in a statement.

McLaren will debut the Artura GT4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23-26, with factory driver Rob Bell behind the wheel.
