Police arrested a man on Thursday after they say he waved them down to confess that he had killed someone and could lead them to the body, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, around 1 a.m., a Cochise County deputy noticed a man in the middle of the roadway near McNeal, Arizona.

The man, identified as 52-year-old Jay Albert Stevens, waived down the deputy and said "he had just shot and killed someone," according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

Stevens led police to a home where a 61-year-old man was found deceased.

Deputies took Stevens into custody and charged him with first-degree murder, said the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation was ongoing.
