McPherson organization receives $30K grant

MCPHERSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A McPherson organization is one of six nonprofit organizations across Kansas to receive a portion of a $122,761.55 grant.

Funding for the grant comes from the federal Community Services Block Grant, administered locally by the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. The McPherson Housing Coalition is receiving $30,000 in grant money.

The organization will use the funds to assist the families who are housed in their Oak Harbor Emergency Shelter Cottages. The cottages are non-congregant shelters, which means they are not group shelters, but individual shelters that provide single-family housing.

$22,500 of the grant will be used to provide childcare services for the children of parents at Oak Harbor and transportation. The remaining $7,500 will be used to help fund the Director of Supportive Services position.

“The CSBG program aims to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities, and empower low-income families and individuals to become fully self-sufficient,” said Marilyn Stanley, CSBG Program Manager at the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation in a news release from the organization. “We’re so pleased to work with our community partners to provide these vital resources to Kansans in need.”

Other programs receiving grant funding in Kansas include Community Action, the Fellowship HiCrest SENT Program, and Valeo Behavioral Health Care in Topeka, NEK-CAP, Inc. which operates Head Start programs in northeast Kansas, and ECKAN, which assists low-income individuals and families in eastern Kansas, including Council Grove, and Emporia.
