MD Congressman Announces Death Of 25-Year-Old Son

ANNAPOLIS, MD — U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin and his wife, Sarah Bloom Raskin, announced the death of their son on Thursday. Thomas Bloom Raskin was 25.

"Tommy was pure magic," the Maryland congressman said in a statement. "His brilliance and compassion knew no bounds."

Thomas Bloom Raskin was a second-year student at Harvard Law School. He graduated from Amherst College.

"He passionately loved his family, friends, and animals, and was devoted to the cause of the global poor," Jamie Raskin said. "We are devastated and demolished to be without him."

Thomas Bloom Raskin is survived by his sisters, Hannah and Tabitha, and his grandparents, Arlene Bloom and Lynn Raskin. Dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will also carry on his memory.

The family will announce the funeral arrangements in due time. They thank the public for its support, but they ask everybody to follow coronavirus protocols while they mourn. The statement did not specify a cause of death.

Jamie Raskin represents Maryland's 8th congressional district, which covers parts of Carroll, Frederick and Montgomery counties.
