MDOT: Ramp from WB I-69 to WB I-96 to reopen; project nearly done

LANSING — State officials on Monday plan to reopen a busy freeway ramp in Eaton County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation said it will reopen the ramp from westbound Interstate 69 to westbound Interstate 96, as well as one lane of westbound I-69 along the 5-mile-long construction zone between Airport Road and the freeway interchange.

The ramp to westbound I-96 has been closed since July while crews rebuilt the westbound lanes of I-69. Westbound traffic was shifted to the eastbound side.

The $73-million project includes rebuilding a section of I-69, including the interchanges at Francis and Airport, and doing maintenance on 13 bridges. All lanes should be open by the time road work ends for the winter, but some of the bridge work may not be finished until next year, MDOT said.
