‘Mean Girls the Musical’ alum Stephanie Bissonnette dead at 32: ‘The fiercest talent Broadway has ever known’

Broadway multi-hyphenate Stephanie Bissonnette, known for “Mean Girls the Musical,” has died. She was 32.

Bissonnette, who died Sunday, previously spoke in detail about battling a rare form of brain cancer known as medulloblastoma, with which she was diagnosed in 2019, Playbill reports.

Having debuted on Broadway as Dawn Schweitzer in the original company of “Mean Girls the Musical,” Bissonnette went on to choreograph for the stage adaptation, according to E! News.

The show — which Bissonnette was a part of until it closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic — paid tribute to the late artist on Twitter.

“Our hearts are broken as the Mean Girls community mourns the loss of Stephanie Bissonnette. Our original Dawn Sweitzer, Stephanie was part of our Broadway company from our first performance to our last,” the production tweeted. “She filled our theater with her laughter and friendship, inspired us with her fighting spirit and bravery, and graced our stage with the fiercest talent Broadway has ever known.”

The show went on to extend its “thoughts and prayers” to Bissonnette’s loved ones.

“We will miss her profoundly and encourage everyone to do something they love today in Stephanie’s honor.”

Bissonnette, whose cause of death has not been confirmed, also appeared in “Ensemble,” a documentary about Broadway dancers.
