It's October 3, which makes it the perfect day to announce that the Mean Girls musical is officially coming to London's West End in 2024.

The on-stage adaptation of the 2004 teen comedy classic will debut at the Savoy Theatre in June next year, with tickets on sale from Wednesday, November 1.

The musical, which premiered in 2017, retells the story of Cady Heron, who moves to the US from Africa and finds that high school teenagers are even more savage than wild animals.

She teams up with classmates Janis and Damian to try and topple the social hierarchy by taking down 'The Plastics' clique from inside – but finds herself becoming just as bad as arch-nemesis Regina George in the process.

Tina Fey, who wrote all of the film's incredible one-liners, was involved in the musical, so expect the songs to be just as bitingly funny. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt composer Jeff Richmond and Legally Blonde lyricist Nell Benjamin have worked on the musical with her, so there's a lot of strong talent involved.

If you want to see the musical but you've been grounded for throwing a party – or are unable to get to the theatre – you'll be glad to know that a movie version of the Broadway production isn't just coming, but it's already been filmed.

While casting for the London version of the musical is due to be announced, we already know who's starring in the filmed version of the Broadway production.

In terms of new cast members for the movie version of the musical, Angourie Rice stars as Cady Heron, with Auli'i Cravalho as Janis and Jaquel Spivey as Damian.

Meanwhile, Jon Hamm is playing Coach Carr, a gym teacher who is strongly anti-sex, but also too happy to make out with his students in the projection room above the auditorium.

Reneé Rapp has also reprised her role as Regina from the Broadway cast, while two members of the original movie's cast are back, too – Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall and Fey as maths teacher Ms Norbury.

The original Mean Girls film can be streamed free for Prime Video subscribers – and the movie version of the musical is due to be released on January 12, 2024.
