‘Meanest mom ever’: Should this mom have thrown out her kids’ ice cream?

It’s something most of us have dreamed of: taking a badly-behaved kids’ ice cream cone and dumping it in the trash.

And now, one mom is making headlines for doing just that.

“So… I am the meanest mom ever… Like… Ever,” wrote Jamie Primak Sullivan, star of Bravo’s “Jersey Belle,” on Facebook.

In the post, she explained that she took her kids to Dairy Queen for a treat. After waiting a few minutes for their ice cream, the server called their number.

“The young lady (maybe 17) handed each child their ice cream. Not one looked her in the eye. Not one said thank you. Not to her, not to me,” she wrote.

So, when her kids strolled out the door, she walked out behind them – and promptly scooped up their cones and chucked them in the garbage.

“All 3 launched into mass hysteria.”

“I explained that one day, if they were lucky, they would work a job like that young lady. And I would hope that people would see them. Really see them. Look them in the eye and say thank you,” she continued. “We are too old at 8/7/5 to move through our days without exercising manners and honestly basic human decency.”

“So today, I am the meanest mom in the world.”

Since being posted on April 17, the post has been shared more than 25,000 times – and many are praising the mom of three for taking action.

“As someone who works in a restaurant and deals with people who ignore me when I ask ‘how are you?,’ or sit their money on the counter when I’m holding my hand out for it, or won’t even acknowledge me after I say thank you, have a nice day! Thank you. Thank you for instilling into your children manners and plain human decency!” wrote one commenter.

“Good job, mommy! I waitressed while I was in college getting my teaching degree. I was disrespected many times by adults and also by some of their children who were never taught how to treat someone with respect. Proud of you for raising good human beings,” added another.

However, not everyone is happy with Primak Sullivan’s decision.

“I’m sorry, but this is a fail. First of all you taught them it’s OK to throw good food in the trash. Secondly this was overly harsh,” wrote Dansby Parker. “I could understand if they had been rude, but they weren’t rude. They were merely neutral.”

“They WILL remember this, and no, they won’t remember the ‘lesson’ you were trying to teach. Fear is not an acceptable way to teach your kids, at least not for me,” commented another.

Primak Sullivan shot back in a video, saying this wasn’t the first time she tried to encourage her kids to be more respectful – which is why, this time, she wanted to make a lasting impression. She also likened the situation to a mom getting a cocktail – she wants it, but it doesn’t excuse rude behaviour.

“I’m not running away without acknowledging the bartender and believe me, I need the cosmo more than they need the ice cream,” she joked.
