Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:

  1. Meat Loaf, the Dallas-born rock superstar, has died at the age of 74. Although the singer had multiple health scares over the years, at this time, no cause or other details about his death were given. The singer, most notably known for the rock opera“Bat Out of Hell,” is survived by Deborah Gillespie, his wife since 2007, and by daughters Pearl and Amanda Aday. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)

  2. The City Of Dallas has revoked permits for The Texas Card House, just months after approving them. Texas Card House CEO Ryan Crow says he endured long meetings with the city in 2020 before it ultimately approved his permit to operate in the strip mall off Harry Hines in an industrial part of Northwest Dallas. The owners are now planning to appeal the decision to revoke their permits and say about 215 people will lose their jobs if Texas Card House shuts down. (CBS)

  3. Unless the governor extends the ordinance, the eviction moratorium will end on Jan. 23 in Dallas. On Thursday, the Dallas City Council debated if they need to make the ordinance permanent, as the city still has $15 million available for rent assistance. No action was taken by the council, as some argued that the ordinance will help tenants get access to funds before being evicted, while others argued it may only serve to cause landlords to raise rents on paying tenants.
