Mechanical trouble temporarily delays Harris' flight to Guatemala

Mechanical issues on Air Force Two temporarily delayed Vice President Kamala Harris' flight to Guatemala on Sunday.

Chief spokesperson Symone Sanders confirmed later that there was an issue with the landing gear, saying the flight crew "noticed the landing gear was not storing as it should which could lead to further mechanical issues," according to a pool report.

The Air Force Two carrying Harris had taken off from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, only to return shortly after. Everyone left the plane, then boarded another plane and subsequently took off again.

Sanders added: "While there was no immediate safety issue, out of an abundance of caution, they returned to Joint Base Andrews, where they have all the parts and mechanics they need to fix the issue."

After returning to Andrews, Harris told reporters, “We all said a little prayer but we’re good.”

Flying on the backup plane, Harris arrived in Guatemala City on Sunday evening. She is also scheduled to visit Mexico in her first international trip since she was sworn in as vice president.
