Mediapolis sweeps team titles at Winfield-Mount Union cross country meet

Mediapolis swept the boys and girls team titles at the Winfield-Mount Union Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield.

Mediapolis won the girls title with 47 points, followed by Louisa-Muscatine (62), Columbus (68), Notre Dame-West Burlington (72), Winfield-Mount Union (124) and Central Lee (129).

Hannah Fruehling of ND-WB won the individual title in 21 minutes, 59.9 seconds. Kennedy Ritter of ND-WB took third in 23:32.8, followed by Naveiah Garza of Columbus in 24:30.7, Shelby Schultz of Mediapolis in 24:35.5, Isabel Stout of Louisa-Muscatine in 24:39.3, Lexie Eaton of Louisa-Muscatine in 24:41.9, Kenadee Helscher of Wapello in 24:51.9, Aubrey Kuntz of Mediapolis in 24:53.8 and Tatum Wolford of Wapello in 25:02.9

Mediapolis won the boys team title with 36 points, followed by Columbus (64), Winfield-Mount Union (72), Louisa-Muscatine (105), Notre Dame-West Burlington (123), WACO (132), Central Lee (144) and Wapello (214).

Mediapolis junior Solomon Zaugg won the individual title in 16:57.0. Mediapolis' Owen Schmidgall was second in 17:44.9, followed by Jeff Campbell of Mediapolis in 18:04.4, Kohlby Newson of Winfield-Mount Union in 18:21.0, Gabe Hemsworth of Winfield-Mount Union in 18:25.7, Logan Rosas of Mediapolis in 18:35.7, Grant Anderson of Central Lee in 18:42.5, Damian Vergara of Columbus in 18:54.7, Timothy Hills-Carrier of Columbus in 18:57.2 and Kellen Walsh of Louisa-Muscatine in 19:16.8.

Volleyball

NO. 3 NOTRE DAME 25-26-25-25, MEDIAPOLIS 21-24-27-23: Gabby Deery had 25 kills, 17 digs and two blocks as Class 1A's third-ranked Notre Dame held on for an SEI Superconference South Division win at Mediapolis.

Also for the Nikes, Taryn Stephens had five kills and 13 digs, Madalynn Knapp had four kills, three aces and 14 digs, Aviana West had eight digs and two blocks, Maddie Mosena had 50 assists and five digs, Abby Korschgen had 11 kills, Ava Parkins had four aces and nine digs and Emily Stutsman had two aces and nine digs.

Brenna Thie had eight kills for Mediapolis. Also for the Bullettes, Haley Steffener had seven kills, nine digs and two blocks, Hanna Wagenbach had 13 kills and six digs, Morgan Frank had four kills, Kennedy Welliver had 31 assists, Jaydon Wirt had three aces and 15 digs, Lexie Arnold had two aces and Lilly Luttenegger had five digs.

CENTRAL LEE 25-19-25-26, DANVILLE 18-25-13-24: Kenna Furnald had 16 kills, three aces, 18 digs and one block, but the Bears fell to the Lady Hawks in a South Division match.

Also for the Bears, Jaeda Molle had five kills, 26 assists and 16 digs, Rylee Morris had two kills and two blocks, Micah Svoboda had four kills and two aces, Alexis Dietsch had four kills and four digs, Taegan Frazer had five kills and Carlea Beckman had 36 digs.

WACO 25-25-25, WAPELLO 16-20-18: Jacie Hoeg put up 21 assists and added eight digs in the Arrows' North Division loss to the Warriors.

Also for the Arrows, Emily Hemphill had eight kills, five aces and 21 digs, Quinn Veach had eight kills and 16 digs, Madelyn Lanz had four kills, Rachel Hoeg had three kills and three aces, Lyv Malone had 13 digs and Livy Fuller had 12 digs.

WINFIELD-MOUNT UNION 25-25-25, LOUISA-MUSCATINE 15-10-12: Melina Oepping had 11 kills and four aces and Keetyn Townsley had five aces and eight digs in the Wolves' North Division win over the Falcons.

Also for the Wolves, Bradie Buffington had six kills and four aces, Audrey Gipple had five kills and three digs, Keeley Malone had 18 assists and four digs and Lily Freeman had three blocks.

COLUMBUS 3-19-25-25-25, LONE TREE 25-25-23-14-21: Sara Vela had 33 assists, four aces, eight digs and four blocks to lead the Wildcats past the Lions in a North Division match.

Also for the Wildcats, Miriam Ruvulcaba had seven aces, Jocelyn Hernandez had four aces, Victoria Howell had 12 kills and five digs, Aracely Garza had nine digs, Isabelle Lagunas had 19 digs and Isabel Rendon had five digs.

ILLINI WEST 25-25, SOUTH FULTON 4-8: Josie Bryan had 11 kills, Reagan Reed had nine kills and Madalyn Boyer had three kills to lead the Chargers to victory at Carthage, Illinois.

Bryan and Reed each put up 10 assists and four digs for the Chargers. A.J. Cook had two digs, while Boyer had four aces, Bryan had three aces and Reed had an ace.

WEST HANCOCK 25-26, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 14-24: Breanna Peterson had seven kills and Jadyn Climer and Paiyton Huston each had five Kills in the Titans' home victory.

Also for the Titans, Abbie Morrison had two aces, Bianca Hills had an ace and Hailey Harl had 21 digs.

ED STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL HOSTS OTTUMWA: The "Adventurous Team) lost, 21-10, 17-21, 15-10. Kinsley McConahay had four aces and two kills, Bricelyn Patton had one ace and two kills, Leah Sieren had three assists, Josie Newell had one assist and one kill, Ty'Rhianna Morris had two aces, Caris Jolin had two kills, Tenley Haushknecht had one ace, Alyssa Burchett had one kill and Ava Brandenburg had one assist.

The "Bold Team" won 21-8, 18-21 on match points. Ty'Kria Roach had 15 aces, Hadlei Renard had three aces, Amariana Chew, Gwendolyn Francis and Florrah Mehaffy each had an ace and Brooklyn Dochterman had one kill.

The "Courageous Team" lost 21-19, 12-21 on match points. Ariannah Hierstein and Charilya Sneed each had three acves, Chazlyn Boyd had two aces and Anastasia Collins and Aubree Wood each had an ace.

The "Determined Team" lost, 21-18, 21-3. Xyian Parker had four aces, Kyra Shannan had two aces and Alexis Kempf and Kelsie Ann Wales each had an ace.

GIRLS GOLF

Three area golfers advance from a Class 1A regional tournament Wednesday at Canton, Illinois.

West Central's Elaina Fuller finished second with an 87, West Central's Alexis Strack carded a 97 and West Hancock's Olivia Bell shot a 98. All three will advance to a Class 1A sectional on Monday at Kewanee, Illinois.

BOYS GOLF

Illini West team, two individuals advance

Illini West won the team title with a 345 total to advance from a Class 1A regional tournament Wednesday at Deer Run Golf Course in Hamilton, Illinois.

Nolan Dietsch of Illini West earned medalist honors with an 81. Also advancing were Brayson Smeltser of West Hancock with a 92.

They will advance to a Class 1A sectional at Mason City, Illinois on Monday.

West Central's Ethan Nichols carded a 94 at a Class 1A regional at Monmouth, Illinois to advance.

Nichols will play in a Class 1A sectional at Port Byron, Illinois on Monday.
