Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in north Charlotte

A person was hit and killed by a car last Thursday in north Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on May 4 North Tryon Street at Salome Church Road.

According to CMPD, Jay Thomas Lynch was walking in the roadway in a poorly lit area when he encountered a driver operating a Ford Fusion. Police said the driver swerved his vehicle but was unable to avoid hitting Lynch.

Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the crash for the driver, according to police.

Police do suspect Lynch was impaired at the time of the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
