Medical marijuana dispensary opens Portsmouth, is first in Hampton Roads

After several delays, Hampton Roads’ first medical marijuana dispensary opened Tuesday in Portsmouth.

According to the store’s website, Columbia Care opened Tuesday at 10 a.m. Located on Seaboard Court, the facility sells and produces CBD and THC-A oil-based products including capsules and creams.

Customers are required to bring a Virginia Medical Registration card to enter the store. Columbia Care was one of five companies to receive a processing license by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy to operate medical dispensaries.

The store was originally supposed to open in the spring of 2019, but the Portsmouth location was delayed because the company was also working on opening other stores at the same time, according to Robert Moore, the city’s economic development director.

Virginia’s first medical marijuana dispensary opened in Bristol in October of this year.

The store operates Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, and it only accepts cash.
