A car belonging to Prilepin exploded in a likely car bombing near the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod on May 6. The car’s driver, who was also serving as the propagandist’s bodyguard, died at the scene, while Prilepin himself was seriously injured.

Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Permyakov was detained by Russian authorities on suspicion of attempting to assassinate Prilepin.

At the same time, he is believed to have fought on the side of the Donetsk puppet authority against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2014-2015, after which he fled to Russia.

In turn, Medvedev quite clearly hinted that, despite the moratorium on the death penalty in force in Russia, Permyakov will eventually be “taken out” after the verdict.

“Events and accidents sometimes happen even to those sentenced to life imprisonment (under a moratorium on execution),” Medvedev said.

“And then the long sentence is quickly interrupted by natural causes due to the prisoner’s death. And it’s also very educational for the new bastards hired to kill.”

Prilepin is a Russian propagandist, pro-war writer, and politician. He is a member of the Political Council of the A Just Russia (aka Fair Russia) Party. He has also held a number of positions in the Donbas occupation authorities, including as an “adviser” to the now-killed leader of the Donetsk puppet authorities, Alexander Zakharchenko, in 2015 and as a “deputy commander of a special forces battalion for personnel management” in occupied Donetsk from 2016-2018.
