Meet the 2022 All-County girls cross-country team!

'Palm Beach County can lay claim to a state champion cross-country runner in 2022.

Boca Raton senior Emma O'Day closed her high school career with four consecutive victories at the Palm Beach County, district, regional and state championships to lift the Class 4A state crown.

A select few local girls cross-country runners separated themselves from the pack with standout performances at the postseason events.

These are nominees for the cross-country player of the year for the Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards to be held in the spring. The winner will be announced at the show. More details about the program are coming soon. The show is produced with support from Baptist Health Orthopedic Care.

During the live show, these nominees will be honored, along with the top three finalists and the player of the year. All official nominees can receive a free ticket. Check back later in the year for information on how to RSVP.

The Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.

All-County Girls Cross-Country

Avery Fronrath, King's Academy

Fronrath is one of Palm Beach County's most consistent contenders, posting a top-10 finish in 26 of her last 28 varsity cross-country races since 2019. For the second consecutive year, Fronrath finished second at the Palm Beach County Championships, second at districts and third at regionals. She placed 10th at the Class 2A state meet, just 0.02 seconds shy of matching last year's ninth-place state finish. The King's Academy girls team won the Palm Beach County Championship in a tiebreaker over Benjamin. Fronrath set a personal record of 18:13.10 during her junior campaign.

Keira Hodum, Benjamin

Hodum was a reliable veteran on Palm Beach County's most accomplished team in 2022. The Bucs finished as Palm Beach County runner-up to King's Academy on a tiebreaker but bounced back to win district and region championships. Hodum finished no worse than 12th in any race prior to the state championships, where she set her personal record 19:41.80 to finish 24th. Hodum will run for Amherst University.

Katelyn O'Brien, Boca Raton

Boca Raton's fabulous freshman enjoyed an impressive Bobcats debut with seven top-five finishes. She placed fourth at the Palm Beach County Championships, runner-up at districts, fourth at regionals and 10th at the Class 4A state meet. O'Brien's personal record was 18:45.87.

O'Day capped a dominant high school cross-country career with a historic state championship, taking first place (18:23.90) at the Class 4A state meet in Tallahassee. O'Day is the first girls cross-country state champion from a Palm Beach County public high school since Wellington's Ashley Brasovan won three straight 4A state titles from 2006-08. O'Day exits Boca Raton as back-to-back champion of the Palm Beach County, district and region championship meets. Her personal record was 18:06.60 at the FSU Invitational.

Sydney Schiff, Benjamin

Schiff played a key role in Benjamin's team district and region championships, where she led the Bucs with a runner-up and fourth-place individual finish, respectively. The stellar sophomore was also Benjamin's top individual finisher at the Palm Beach County Championships, where she set a personal record 19:28.00 to take fifth. She placed 28th at the state meet and is trending toward the county's elite runners ahead of her junior season.

Park Vista's stable of top 20 finishers overcame state-caliber times from Boca Raton to win a team district championship this fall. Reason won the Pine Crest XC Open and Palm Beach Central Invitational individually before taking fourth at districts, seventh at regionals and 27th at the state meet. Reason set her personal record of 19:20.50 for a team-best third-place finish at the Palm Beach County Championships.

The first girls cross-country head coach in King's Academy history led the Lions to a championship in her debut season. King's Academy beat Benjamin in a tiebreaker to win the Palm Beach County Championship, led by a runner-up individual finish from veteran junior Avery Fronrath. The Lions finished runner-up at districts and third in regionals.
