Meet the 2022 Palm Beach Post All-County girls swimming team
Palm Beach County swimmers piled up individual and relay state championships while taking aim at some of the nation's best swim and dive programs this fall.
These are nominees for swimmers of the year for the Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards to be held in the spring. The winner will be announced at the show. More details about the program are coming soon. The show is produced with support from Baptist Health Orthopedic Care.
During the live show, these nominees will be honored, along with the top three finalists and the player of the year. All official nominees can receive a free ticket. Check back later in the year for information on how to RSVP.
The Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.
2022 All-County Girls Swimming
Aly Bozzuto, King’s Academy
Bozzuto was a two-time state champion in the 50-meter freestyle and 200-meter medley relay while taking state runner-up in the 200 free relay and 100 breaststroke. At regionals, the junior dominated with individual wins in the 100 breaststroke and 50 free while leading the Lions to victories in the 200 free and 200 medley relays. Bozzuto was the only individual to win two events at the Palm Beach County Championships (50 free, 100 breaststroke).
Morgan Cogle, Jupiter
Cogle won a district title in the 100-meter freestyle to help the Warriors claim a team district championship. The senior took fifth in the event at regionals and eighth at state for a podium finish. She also finished fifth in the 100 backstroke and third with the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams at regionals.
Ava Fasano, King’s Academy
A Purdue commit, Fasano was a key member of the Lions' state championship 200 medley relay team and state runner-up 200 freestyle relay. Individually, Fasano saw her best success in the 50 free, taking fifth at state and third at regionals.
Aspen Gersper, St. Andrew’s
The Post's 2021 Girls Swimmer of the Year was equally impressive in her junior campaign. Gersper was a state champion in the 100 freestyle and runner-up in the 50 free while helping the Scots take third in the 200 and 400 free relays. At regionals, Gersper won the 100 free and finished runner-up in the 50 free and 400 free relay. She also won the Palm Beach County Championship in the 100 butterfly.
Emma Herrera, King's Academy
Herrera captured a region championship in her sophomore season, winning the 500 freestyle and 200 medley relay. She also finished region runner-up in the 100 butterfly. Herrera swam on the Lions' state champion 200 medley relay team and took sixth in the 500 free and seventh in the 100 fly individually. She won the 500 free at the Palm Beach County Championships.
Riley Hersh, Park Vista
Hersh was a county and district champion in 1-meter diving for her final high school campaign. She finished sixth at regionals and 11th at the Class 4A state championship meet.
Addison Kent, Jupiter
Few freshmen were as successful this season as Kent, who took fifth in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 200 IM at state. She was region runner-up in the 100 back and third in the 200 IM. Kent also shone at the Palm Beach County Championships, taking third in the 200 IM.
Riley MacVane, Dwyer
MacVane posted her best performances in the 200-meter freestyle, winning an individual district title before placing third at regionals and eighth in the event at state. The senior also placed fourth in the 100 backstroke and sixth with the 400 free relay team at regionals.
Katya Malyshev, Palm Beach Central
A splendid freshman season was highlighted by Malyshev's district titles in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. She finished as region runner-up in the 100 breaststroke before placing ninth in the event at Class 4A state. Malyshev also placed fifth in the 200 IM at regionals.
Erin Miller, St. Andrew's
A Navy commit, Miller specialized in the freestyle, winning a region championship in the 200 free and taking fourth in the 500 free. She finished sixth and eighth in the events at state. Miller also featured on the Scots' freestyle relays, taking third in the 200 free relay at state and fourth in the 200 and 400 free relays at regionals. The senior won the 200 free at the Palm Beach County Championships.
Madison Sipowski, King's Academy
Sipowski closed her high school swim career with a first-place finish in the breaststroke at the Palm Beach County Championships. She took fourth in the 100 breaststroke at regionals and seventh in the event at state. Sipowski also anchored the Lions' 400 free relay team, which took sixth at state. She is committed to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Alexia Sotomayor, St. Andrew's
The Peruvian prodigy was tough to beat in the backstroke, earning first place at the Palm Beach County Championships before taking third at the region and state meets. Sotomayor was also a top contender in the 100 butterfly with a third-place finish at regionals and a fourth-place finish at state. She featured in the Scots' 200 and 400 free relay teams which earned podium finishes at region and state.
Coach of the Year
Gina Proscia, King's Academy
Proscia's Lions simply had a huge season: King's Academy won the Palm Beach County Championship en route to district and region championships as well. At state, the Lions finished second only to Bolles, which has won 32 straight girls swimming state titles.
