Meet the 2022 T&G Hometeam high school girls' skiing Super Team

The Worcester Telegram is proud to announce the nominees for the Hometeam girls' skiing Athlete of the Year for the Central Mass High School Sports Awards, presented by DCU — Digital Federal Credit Union, will be held live on Wednesday, June 22, at Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

During the live show, these nominees will be honored, and the athlete of the year will be selected. The Central Mass High School Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.

Here are the Hometeam girls' skiing Athlete of the Year nominees:

Alexa Butterfield

Algonquin, Junior

Butterfield makes her second appearance on the T&G Super Team after finishing fifth in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League with 1,178 points before placing 55th in the giant slalom (50.06) and 82nd in the slalom (58.7) in the MIAA Alpine Championships at Wachusett Mountain. While Butterfield had plenty of strong performances on the slopes this season, her most memorable moment came at the final giant slalom race of the season, where her boyfriend was waiting at the bottom of the course - where she clocked a time good for second place - to "prompose" to her with a sign with the term "There is snow-body I would rather take to the prom." on it. How could anyone resist? She is the daughter of Brian and Malissa Jean-Charles of Southborough.

Anyee Li

Shrewsbury, Sophomore

Li finished up a sensational sophomore campaign for the Colonials by finishing third in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League with 1,189 points on the season as Shrewsbury took third in the league with 29 wins. Li also shined at the MIAA Alpine Championships by finishing 34th in the giant slalom (49.42) and 37th in the slalom (53.76) at Wachusett Mountain. Li has already been named a captain for next winter's team. Li also competes on the crew team and enjoys listening to music in her spare time. She is the daughter of Bruce Li and Hongyan Wang of Shrewsbury.

Ellie Lubin

Wachusett, Junior

A three-time member of the T&G Super Team, Lubin keeps on posting more impressive accomplishments as her career grows. Lubin finished second overall in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League, notching 1,192 points and following that up with a great showing at Wachusett Mountain, finishing tied for seventh in the slalom (48.19) and placing 10th in the giant slalom (47.53) for the Mountaineers. Lubin qualified for the Eastern High School Championships and placed 21st in the slalom, which was her most memorable moment this season. Lubin enjoys hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding and working out in her spare time. She is the daughter of Ken and Allison Lubin of Princeton.

Neve Martin

Lunenburg, Junior

A two-time T&G all-star, Martin finished 10th in the Mass Bay West Omega League with 278 points for the Blue Knights this season. Martin, who attends Littleton High School but competes for Lunenburg thanks to a co-op between the schools, also placed 22nd in the giant slalom (48.72) and 48th in the slalom (54.64) at Wachusett Mountain at the MIAA Alpine Championships. Martin was a captain this season and will be one again next winter for Lunenburg and also plays lacrosse and soccer at Littleton. Martin enjoys surfing in her spare time and hopes to major in pre-law or political science in college. The Bolton resident is the daughter of Bill Martin and Jacqueline Kral.

Abby Reid

Lunenburg, Sophomore

Reid, who attends Littleton High but competes for the Blue Knights as part of a co-op agreement between the schools, earned her second straight T&G all-star nomination after finishing ninth in the Mass Bay West Omega Division with 359 points. Reid also placed 49th in the slalom (55.03) and 80th in the giant slalom (51.30) at Wachusett Mountain at the MIAA Alpine Championships.

Taylor Riley

Nashoba, Senior

A three-time T&G all-star, Riley went out in a big way for the Wolves this season, finishing fourth in the giant slalom (47.00) and 12th in the slalom (48.83) at the MIAA Alpine Championships at Wachusett Mountain. Riley also had a stellar season in the Mass Bay West Omega League, finishing in the top three twice in races this year and placing third in the league with 390 points for Nashoba. The three-time captain for coach Mike Gormley also earned an invite to the Eastern High School Championships. Riley also plays volleyball and is a stellar lacrosse player at Nashoba and will play next spring at St. Anselm. Riley aspires to become a coach and hopes to work with children after graduating. She is the daughter of James and Dana Riley of Lancaster.

Kate Robinson

Wachusett, Freshman

Robinson jumped on the scene this winter for the Mountaineers, finishing 11th in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League with 1,154 points and taking 34th in the slalom (53.62) and 53rd in the giant slalom (50.02) at Wachusett Mountain at the MIAA Alpine Championships. Her times qualified her for the EAstern Championships. Robinson enjoys playing lacrosse, running and mountain biking when she's not on the slopes. She is the daughter of Dave and Susan Robinson of Princeton.

Ellie Savoie

Shrewsbury, Senior

Savoie qualified for the MIAA Alpine Championships three times for the Colonials, and this winter at Wachusett Mountain Savoie finished 87th in the slalom (59.66) and 95th in the giant slalom (52.15). Savoie also placed 10th in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League at SkiWard with 1,163 points. A captain for coach Robert Murner, Savoie enjoys hiking with her dog and working out in her spare time and hopes to study engineering in college to become a Naval engineer. She is the daughter of Jennifer Savoie of Shrewsbury.

Sophie Scerbin

Westborough, Senior

Scerbin put the finishing touches on a great career for the Rangers with a top 10 finish in every race this season in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League at SkiWard. Scerbin finished ninth in the league with 1,172 points and qualified for the state championship meet for the third time in her career. Scerbin did well at Wachusett Mountain at the MIAA Alpine Championships, placing 36th in the giant slalom (49.43) and 74th in the slalom (57;46). A two-time captain for coach Andrew Lipke, Scerbin is also a standout soccer player for the Rangers and will play for Roger Williams University next fall, where she will pursue a double-minor in marketing and psychology and data analytics, while not ruling out sports management. Scerbin has eyes on graduate school and getting her MBA in order to use her knowledge in marketing and psychology to advocate on mental health for athletes and others. She is the daughter of Michelle Scerbin of Westborough.

Jula Utzschneider

Algonquin, Junior

A repeat selection to the T&G Super Team, Utzschneider finished seventh in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League with 1,174 points to help the Titans finish with 40 victories to take the team title. Utzschneider went on to finish 61st in the slalom (55.92) and 92nd in the giant slalom (51.92) at the MIAA Alpine Championships at Wachusett Mountain. Utzschneider also runs cross-country and plays lacrosse for Algonquin and enjoys sewing in her spare time. She hopes to pursue a career in biology or medical science when she goes to college. Utzschneider will be a captain for coach Wayne Hey next winter. The Northborough resident is the daughter of Peter Utzschneider and Adrienne Sutton.

Mina Utzschneider

Algonquin, Senior

Utzschneider wrapped up a remarkable career for the Titans with her third T&G all-star nod after helping the Titans to the Central Mass. Conference Ski League title with 40 wins on the season. Utzschneider finished sixth in the league with 1,177 points and also helped Algonquin finish ninth at the MIAA Alpine Championships at Wachusett Mountain by finishing 30th in the giant slalom (49.20) and 43rd in the slalom (54.20). A two-time captain for coach Wayne Hey, Utzschneider will attend Northeastern University in the fall with an eye on a degree in marketing. The Northborough resident is the daughter of Peter Utzschneider and Adrienne Sutton.

Ella Varnerin

Nashoba, Junior

A three-time T&G all-star, Varnerin dominated the Mass Bay West Omega field this year, posting wins in four of five races - and second in another to take the individual title with 499 points. Varnerin continued to shred at Mount Wachusett for the MIAA Alpine Championships with a third-place finish in the slalom (47.13) and a 16th-pace run in the giant slalom (48.22). Those times qualified her for the Eastern Championships, where she finished sixth in the giant slalom. Varnerin hopes to pursue a career in medicine in college. She is the daughter of John and Amy Vernerin of Stow.
