Meet the 2022 T&G Hometeam high school boys' hockey Super Team and honorable mentions

The Worcester Telegram is proud to announce the nominees for the Hometeam boys' hockey Player of the Year for the Central Mass High School Sports Awards, presented by DCU — Digital Federal Credit Union, will be held live on Wednesday, June 22, at Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

During the live show, these nominees will be honored, and the Player of the Year will be selected. The Central Mass High School Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.

Here are the Hometeam boys' hockey Player of the Year nominees:

Jackson Bohn

Westborough, Senior, Defense

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Bohn was a leader on and off the ice as a team captain while helping the Rangers go 9-8-2 and advance to the Division 2 state tournament. A lockdown defender, he also made his presence felt at the offensive end by scoring seven goals and dishing out 10 assists. Bohn considers his most memorable moment of the season to be a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over Algonquin as the Rangers captured the Matt Bruce Cup for the first time in its six-year history. Bohn is leaning toward attending Bryant University, where he plans to study business. He is the son of Cynthia and Jeffery Bohn of Westborough.

Marcus Chrisafideis

Marlborough, Senior, Forward

Chrisafideis was a prodigious point producer who made his presence felt from the first to the last game as the Panthers finished 21-2-1 after advancing to the Division 3 state final for the first time since 2005. The 5-foot-5, 135-pound left wing piled up 38 goals and 29 assists for a Central Mass.-leading 67 points to finish his career with 100-plus points. His most memorable moment of the season came when he got his first glimpse at the packed stands at TD Garden for the state final. While undecided about where he’ll attend college, Chrisafideis aspires to study business and continue his hockey career. He is the son of Jeannie and Chris Chrisafideis of Marlborough.

Cameron Collins

Hopedale, Senior, Forward

Collins wielded a red-hot stick as the Blue Raiders went 19-2 and advanced to the quarterfinals of Division 3 state tournament. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound center submitted a 29-24–53 line to finish second in scoring in Central Mass. Collins, who attends Milford High, considers his last-minute goal in a 2-1 win over Wachusett in the CMADA Class A Tournament and his hat trick in a 4-2 win over West Springfield in the state tourney to be his most memorable moments of the season. While undecided about where he’ll attend college, Collins aspires study criminal justice and continue his hockey career. He is the son of Tina and Michael Collins of Milford.

Mark Evangelous

Marlborough, Senior, Forward

It was a senior season to remember for Evangelous, a captain and four-year varsity contributor. The 5-foot-6, 155-pound center scored 18 goals and added 24 assists for 42 points while helping the Panthers go 21-2-1 and advance to the Division 3 state final. He finished his career with 83 points. Among his many memorable moments were scoring in overtime to complete a hat trick in a state quarterfinal win over Danvers and then edging Lynnfield in the semifinals. Evangelous, named an MVP of the Central Mass. Hockey Coaches Association All-Star Game, will continue his academic and athletic careers during a postgrad year at Worcester Academy. He is the son of Vicki and Mark Evangelous of Marlborough.

Luke Evers

Worcester, Senior, Forward

The 6-foot, 175-pound Evers picked up where he left off — and then some — as the Wildcats returned to the ice after a one-year, pandemic-induced absence. The sharpshooting forward struck for 27 goals and added 14 assists to finish eighth in Central Mass. in scoring with 41 points after pocketing 27 as a sophomore. Evers, who attends Doherty High, captained the Wildcats to an 11-8-2 record and the second round of the Division 4 state tournament. Among his most memorable moments were winning the Grafton Holiday Tournament and receiving the first Nicholas S. Pennucci Memorial Cup. He is the son of Tiffani and Derek Evers of Worcester.

Billy Johns

Nashoba, Senior, Forward

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound Johns put up some big numbers while captaining the Wolves to an 18-4 record and the quarterfinals of the Division 3 state tournament. The do-it-all right wing, who attends Clinton High, scored 20 goals and dished out 27 assists to make him one of four players in Central Mass. in the 20-20 club. His 47 points ranked in the top five in the area. Johns considers his most memorable moment of the season to be scoring with 3 seconds left in overtime to lift the Wolves to a 4-3 victory over Marlborough in the CMADA Tournament Class A final. Johns will attend the University of New Hampshire. He is the son of Lynne Johns of Clinton.

Jeremy LaCroix

Marlborough, Senior, Forward

The Panthers had a potent offense, leading Central Mass. with 127 goals, and LaCroix had plenty to do with that. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound center netted 26 goals and assisted on 20 strikes to rank near the top of the area’s scoring leaders. Evers considers reaching the Division 3 state final at TD Garden to be his most memorable moment of the season. All told, the Panthers finished 21-2-1, one of the best records in the history of the storied program. LaCroix is headed to the North American Hockey League after graduation as he pursues an opportunity to play collegiately at the Division 1 level. He is the son of Elise and Brian LaCroix of Marlborough.

James Millette

Shrewsbury, Senior, Goalie

The Colonials were in just about every game they played as a first-year member of the competitive Merrimack Valley/Dual County League. Millette was a big reason why. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound netminder posted a 2.60 goals against average and was named team MVP. In one his most remarkable efforts of the season, Millette made 39 saves in a 3-2 setback to perennial Division 1 power Pope Francis. He considers his most memorable moments of the season to be a 4-2 upset of Chelmsford and a 4-1 win over longtime rival Wachusett. Millette will attend Bryant University. He is the son of Donna and Gary Millette of Shrewsbury.

Evan Parente

St. John’s, Senior, Forward

Parente led the way for the young Pioneers in their first full season in the vaunted Catholic Conference. The 6-foot, 155-pound forward generated six goals and eight assists while being named a conference all-star and then capped his scholastic career by being selected MVP of the Massachusetts/Connecticut Border Challenge. Parente considers his most memorable moments of the season, both of which took place before large gatherings of family and friends, to be a 2-1 victory over Andover and a 5-1 win over rival Shrewsbury in which he scored a wrap-around goal. Parente will attend the University of Georgia. He is the son of Kim and John Parente of Grafton.

Sam Salvi

Algonquin, Senior, Defense

The 5-foot-7, 160-pound Salvi set the tone in practice and games with his chemistry-creating leadership as the Titans went 11-8 and earned a berth in the Division 2 state tournament. The assistant captain chipped in offensively with two goals and nine assists. While the Titans reached the Boroughs Cup final and had an impressive midseason stretch in which they allowed 10 goals while going 6-1, Salvi considers his most memorable moment of the season to be an overtime win over Auburn on Senior Night. Salvi will continue his studies and baseball career while doing a postgrad year in North Carolina. He is the son of Holly and Brian Salvi of Southborough.

Joseph Scanlon

Nashoba, Senior, Defense

The Wolves held 12 of their 22 opponents to two goals or less and Scanlon played a leading role in that defensive dominance. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound captain also made his presence felt on offense while collecting nine goals and 21 assists for an impressive 30 points as the Wolves finished 18-4 after advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Division 3 state tournament. While the highlights were plentiful, Scanlon considers his most memorable moment of the season to be an overtime victory against Marlborough in the CMADA Tournament Class A final. Scanlon will attend the University of Maine. He is the son of Christine and Michael Scanlon of Lancaster.

Collin Tunnera

Marlborough, Senior Defense

This marks the second consecutive T&G Super Team selection for Tunnera, making him the lone player on this year’s squad to be so honored. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound blueliner made his physical presence felt in even-strength and special-team situations for a defense that allowed 1.79 goals per game. Tunnera also contributed offensively with five goals and 15 assists as the Panthers finished 21-2-1 after advancing to the Division 3 state final for the first time in 17 years. A four-year starter, Tunnera considers his most memorable moment of the season to have come when the Panthers played for the state title at TD Garden. He is the son of Carol and Paul Tunnera of Marlborough.
