Meet the 4 Camden Co. Democrats trying to make the November General Election ballot
Four Camden County Democrats vying for County Commissioner seats want to make it through the Primary Elections on June 7 to the November General Election Ballot.
Democrats may only choose two candidates to move on to ballots for the Nov. 8 vote, where they'll face Republican challengers for two seats on the county governing board.
Incumbent Democrats Edward T. McDonnell and Carmen G. Rodriguez face newcomers Rebecca Holloway and Wilhemus Schrieks, slated as South Jersey Progressive Democrats.
The Republican primary is uncontested. Democrats chosed by their party this month can expect to face Republicans Ian Gill and Joe Miller in November.
The Democrats:
McDonnell, the board current Deputy Director, was first elected to the post in 1995. As the second-highest ranking member of the commission, he over sees county finances. An educator, he has worked as dean of Camden County College's Cherry Hill Campus. He is a Pennsauken resident.
Puerto Rico-born Rodriguez, also an educator, was sworn in to her post in January 2005. She is a Camden City residents and long-time science teacher for Camden and Audubon school districts. In 2018, she began working as Camden City's Director of Human Services.
Holloway, of Clementon, is a marketing executive for a New Jersey-based tech company. She co-hosts the podcast 'The Heart of the Matter in Black and White," and has organized several community events, including a 2021 blood drive during the COVID-19 pandemic and Clementon's first peaceful protest for racial justice.
Schrieks, a Netherlands-born Collingswood resident, is a project manager for a translation company. Until his move to the United States in 1999, he was active in left-wing politics in the Netherlands for two decades. He wants Camden County Commissioners to be a more inclusive environment with community participation. He'd champion for moving meetings to evenings or weekends when the public is available.
How to vote in the primary election:
Early voting will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 5
On Primary Election Day, June 7, vote in person on a voting machine at your neighborhood polling location. Polling locations open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Drop your vote-by-mail ballot in a secure drop box or at your county's elections office by 8 p.m. on Primary Day. Ballots sent through the mail must be post-marked by 8 p.m. on Election Day and make it to the county elections offices by six days after the primary.
