Meet Alpha Phi Alpha's 8 Fayetteville 'Young Kings with a Purpose'

The Epsilon Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will hold its beautillion next week in downtown Fayetteville, the fraternity said in a news release this week.

The beautillion, the theme of which is "Young Kings With a Purpose," will be 7 p.m. Friday in the Metropolitan Room, 109 Green St.

Eight young men from Cumberland, Hoke and Sampson counties will be presented, the release said. They are:

• Beau Thomas Askew, son of Thomas and Juaneshia Askew and a recent graduate of Hoke County High School

Shamar Curry

• Beau Shamar Curry, son of Dr. LaToya Parker and Christopher Curry and a recent graduate of E.E. Smith High School

Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans and was founded Dec. 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Epsilon Rho Lambda Chapter was chartered on Jan. 1, 1952, in Fayetteville. Chapter initiatives include annual scholarships for high school students, volunteer work at the Salvation Army shelter, the March of Dimes Walk for Babies campaign and feeding the homeless during the holidays, the release said.
