Meet Atlantis Charter School's Top 10 graduates of 2023

FALL RIVER — The following students were named to the Top 10 of Atlantis Charter School's class of 2023.

Caitlynn Cabral
Caitlynn Cabral

1. Caitlynn Elizabeth Cabral, valedictorian, is the daughter of Debra and Edward Cabral of Fall River. She will be attending Southern New Hampshire University and majoring in General Studies in the fall.  Caitlynn was captain of the Varsity Girls Soccer team, and a member of the Varsity Track and Field team and placed 6th for Division 6 200m dash.  She is the Vice President of the graduating class, a member of the National Honor Society, named ACS Ambassador for 2 years in a row, and a member of both the Yearbook Club and the Spirit Committee.  Caitlynn is also a member of the East Providence Bayside Football Club where she plays and volunteers with the younger athletes.  She also maintains a part-time job with the City of Fall River in the Traffic Department, and on weekends is a referee for Fall River Youth Soccer Association, US Officials, Swansea-Somerset Youth Soccer League, and Longplex Family & Sports Center.

Hailey Furtado
Hailey Furtado

2. Hailey Furtado, salutatorian, is the daughter of Ashley Duarte, Stephen Duarte, Bruce Furtado, and Elizabeth Furtado of Fall River. She will be attending Bryant University to study business management: leadership and innovation major and minoring in psychology as well as studying for her Master's In Business Administration (3+1 program). In the future, she hopes to open her own business, which she has begun planning for in the ACS business career academy. Hailey is a representative of her student council, along with being co-founder of the Spirit Committee. On Sundays, Hailey volunteers as a Faith Formation teacher at Espírito Santo Parish. She is also a part of the National Honor Society. Hailey received the Grimshaw scholarship, Merrimack Valley Credit Union scholarship, Saint Anne’s Credit Union scholarship, Dollars For Scholars of Fall River scholarship, and Disabilities of Fall River scholarship. Hailey was also a finalist for the Fall River Youth of the Year Award.

Larissa Desouza
Larissa Desouza

3. Larissa DeSouza is the daughter of Carlos and Rafaelli DeSouza of Fall River. She will attend Northeastern University in Boston as a health science major on the pre-med track. She is planning to pursue a career as a physician. Ms. DeSouza was nominated for the Fall River Youth of the Year Award. She is in the Honor Society, was a student representative in her student council, and has volunteered as a counselor in her church’s pathfinder club. In the future, DeSouza hopes to succeed as a physician and be able to help heal as many people as she can.

Shawn Barboza
Shawn Barboza

4. Shawn Barboza is the son of Maria and Valdemar Barboza of Tritons of Fall River. He will attend Roger Williams University majoring in Biology for Pre-Dental. Shawn is the Treasurer of the Student Government where he plays a large role in managing the money. He also joined the Student Spirit Committee Club where he played a role in creating shirts, banners, etc. Barboza was on the Boy’s Varsity Soccer team along with Varsity Track & Field. He played as a forward in Soccer along with doing the 100m and 200m dash in Track. Barboza is also a 4 year National Honor Society member. With this being said, his advice for future generations of Tritons is “to enjoy every single second of high school. Take the opportunities when given to you, join a sports team you weren’t sure about, join the clubs, take the AP classes, it’s only one time and enjoy it while you can.”

Mitchell Resendes
Mitchell Resendes

5. Mitchell Resendes is the son of Catarina Resendes of Fall River. He will attend Bridgewater State University as a criminal justice-victimology major. Resendes received many presidential awards along with being a member of the National Junior Honor Society. He has volunteered as a CCD teacher at his local church. In the future, he would like to become a powerful attorney who brings change to the justice system. His advice for future generations is "always strive for what you wish for, even if it seems impossible."

Riley Dupre
Riley Dupre

6. Riley Dupre, the daughter of Michelle and the late Eric Dupre of Fall River will be attending the New England Institute of Technology, majoring in Interior Design. Riley received the John and Abigail Adams Award and the Presidential Scholar Award. She is also a part of the National Honor Society as well as the Yearbook Club. She is looking to pursue a career in Interior Design in the future.

Caleb Ferreira

7. Caleb Ferreira, son of Jeffrey and Anabela Ferreira of Westport. Caleb will be attending Wentworth Institute of Technology this fall majoring in mechanical engineering. He plans on obtaining an internship during his time at Wentworth placing himself among many engineers that will lead him to his goal of becoming a mechanical engineer in Boston, Ma. At Atlantis, Caleb has assisted at school-wide events and played a role in the spirit committee. He also spends his time working at Portugalia Marketplace in Fall River.

Thomas Berek
Thomas Berek

8. Thomas Berek is the son of Michael and Michelle Berek of Fall River. He will be attending Bridgewater State University and majoring in Computer Science. He is a continuing member of the National Honors Society and also received the Presidential award. Not only is Thomas an academic talent, but he is also an athletic individual. Thomas has been pursuing baseball since he was 7 years old, and playing travel ball since 2012. He is a member of the High School Varsity team, performing world-class talents at first base since he was a freshman. He hopes to be successful and to have a happy and healthy family in the future.

Roger Perez
Roger Perez

9. Roger Perez is the son of Lizbeth Rivera and Roberto Perez of Fall River. He will attend Bridgewater State University majoring in Accounting and Finance where he received a full tuition scholarship to the university. He is also a continuing National Honor Society and Class representative for his graduating class. He not only excels academically but also excels in athletics by being a Varsity Captain for the Varsity Boys Soccer team and Varsity Track and Field teams. He has a bright future ahead of him and can't be more grateful for his family and friends who helped him become the person she is today.

Sarah Moniz
Sarah Moniz

10. Sarah Moniz is the daughter of Hilda and Noel Moniz of Fall River. She will be attending Worcester State University in the fall, where she will take part in the Honors Program as well as majoring in the 4+1 Masters Occupational Therapy Program. Sarah has received the Fall River Rotary Club Scholarship, the Grimshaw Scholarship, and was a finalist for the Youth of the Year Award. In the Atlantis Community, Sarah is class president, Varsity Volleyball and Cheer Captain, and a member of the school spirit committee as well as the National Honors Society. During her senior year, she began an internship at Atlantis Charter working in the inclusion classroom of second grade. On the weekends, Sarah is an assistant dance instructor at Pirouette Dance Academy where she has been dancing for the past fifteen years. She is also a hostess at a local restaurant. Her future goal is to be a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and work in the public school system.
