Meet the candidates: Florida's 1st Congressional District, Okaloosa school board forum scheduled at Bob Hope Village

SHALIMAR — The Poquito Bayou Community Association has scheduled a Meet the Candidates Night for Aug. 11 at the Bob Hope Village community ballroom at 30 Holly Ave.

The event begins with an informal social from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. The candidates are scheduled to speak from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The following candidates have been invited to attend:

  • U.S. House District 1 race: Matt Gaetz (incumbent, Rep.), Rebekah Jones (Dem.), Mark Lombardo (Rep.), Greg Merk (Rep.) and Peggy Schiller (Dem.)

  • County Commissioner District 2: Carolyn Ketchel (incumbent, Rep.), Matt Turpin (Rep.) and CareySue Beasley (Rep.)

  • School Board District 1: Lamar White (incumbent) and Jerry Buckman

  • School Board District 3: Linda Evanchyk (incumbent) and Darrell Barnhill

  • School Board District 5: Diane Kelley (incumbent) and Cara Marion

Prior to the forum, Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections Paul Lux will present an update on voting administration and security in Florida.

Bob Hope Village is a gated community, but the Poquito Bayou Community Association has arranged for the Holly Avenue gate to be open for one hour starting promptly at 6 p.m. If you arrive later than 7 p.m., you will need to enter via the Sunset Lane gate and transit the village to the ballroom.
